Here's a fun little Wednesday DIY for ya!
A little while back I posted a photo of this scrub on Instagram. Inquiries for the "recipe" came in, but I honestly just made it up, so I had no specific measurements. Well my scrub ran out and this time I measured so that I could share the love of the scrub with you guys. If you've never used a body scrub, you are missing out! They're great for getting that layer of dry skin off, while moisturizing at the same time. I started making this a few years ago, tweaking the ingredients as time went on. Recently I decided to add ground coffee because I read the caffeine in coffee can help with cellulite. I am not a doctor, but I do know that cellulite is caused by fat that is pushing up against connective tissue underneath the skin. Scrubs naturally break up the fat and decrease the appearance. I figured I might as well combine the scrub with coffee, worth a shot right? If you don't have cellulite (I am so jealous) you can just eliminate the coffee from this recipe.
A jar (size and shape is up to you but speaking from experience, if you choose a deep jar, make sure the opening is big enough to fit your hand, unless you plan on using a scooper to scoop out the scrub)
Essential oil ( I use "Now Essential Oils" from Fairway)
The amount of sugar and oil depends on how big your jar is, but the ratio of sugar to oil should be 2:1. It's helpful to pour water first into your jar to measure how much will fit. I will tell you the measurements I used for my jar, which held 2.5 cups of water. I mixed 2 cups of brown sugar with 1 cup of coconut oil (melted) into a big bowl using a whisk. The reason why I use brown sugar is because is finer than unbleached sugar, which can be painful rubbing on your skin. Then I mixed in 3 Tablespoons of ground coffee and 20 or so drops of lavender essential oil. Like I said earlier, you can eliminate the coffee and you can also choose a different essential oil, I just love the smell of lavender. Then scoop it into your jar and pat it down!
I typically use it once a week. To use just step away from the water in the shower, scrub all over (use more for rough spots, like elbows and feet) and rinse. You will have a layer of oil on your body, once you towel dry, it mostly goes away.
BTW the candle is from Candelles and is hand poured and smells amazing. The spoon was custom made by Jessica from Jessicandesigns.
Happy Hump day!
